Well, after about 2 weeks of sharing our only car left, and looking over Kingwood Yard Sales and craigslist for other Hondas, we found another civic and took the only step towards car security that we knew- we got The Club. Yep. We have a civic with a club in it, and hey, I think it will at least deter those stupid thieves from stealing again.
So, about 4 days after we bought the new civic we get a call at 8:30 PM on our anniversary and on the other end was the Houston Police saying that our car was found. We could go and pick it up in Spring at an impound lot. They couldn't tell us though if it was drivable, only that it was in fair condition and the steering column was busted.
The next day I spend my lunch hour trying to get a hold of the Detective that called me wanting to tell me what condition our car was in and where he found it. He gave me a number that of course did not lead me to him, but after about 2 hours we finally got in touch. He was patroling the usual apartment complexes in Spring that have stolen cars frequenting their parking lots, and he came upon our Civic- without front and rear plates and without the front VIN plate on the drivers side. He coninuted to tell me it was the cleanest stolen car he's ever found, and that if we had any personal items in it (which we did), they were definitely all gone. I told him we had vacuumed it out and cleaned the carpets about 2 days before it was stolen ,and he laughed and said that was probably why it was so clean.
That night we made the drive to the impound lot, and after paying $275 to get it out of the lot Dustin was able to drive it home with a dangling steering column and ignition. Though, the drivers side has problems staying locked now. Thankfully though, nothing was wrong with the actual physical appearance and engine, so it drives just fine.
When we got home Dustin took a few things out from under the hood to prevent anyone from driving off with it again. We will try to fix what's wrong and sell it now that we have 3 cars...yeah, we're living large.
Any takers?
